Data Preparation transforms approved applicant data — demographics, biometrics, cryptographic keys — into the structured, signed and encrypted form that can be written to a physical medium: the smart card chip, the magnetic stripe, the printed surface. It is the step where an application becomes a document.

- Data import and validation
- Import from CSV, XML and databases (LDAP, SQL), with field format validation for dates, country codes and MRZ check digits.
- Data transformation
- Concatenation, truncation, formatting, value mapping — a country name to its three-letter ISO code — and unique document ID generation.
- Data group creation
- Formation of the structured data groups defined by ICAO 9303: DG1 (MRZ), DG2 (photo), DG3 (fingerprints), DG5 (signature), DG7 (face biometric), DG14 (PKI data).
- Digital signature (SOD)
- Generation of the Security Object Document — the signature covering all data groups that guarantees their integrity — signed by the Document Signer under a CSCA-issued certificate.
- Encryption
- Encryption of sensitive biometrics in DG3 and DG4 for Extended Access Control before they are written to the chip.
- Chip encoding script generation
- Generation of APDU scripts or binary files for writing to contact (ISO 7816) or contactless (ISO 14443) chips.
- Visual data preparation
- Image processing for photo and signature, barcode and QR generation, MRZ and PDF417 for the printed surface.
- Mag-stripe encoding
- Data preparation for magnetic stripe encoding in ISO 7811/7812 formats.
