IDmetrix® Quality Assurance (QA)
Enrolment
Rejects a bad sample while the applicant is still at the counter, not weeks later.
Quality Assurance at enrolment scores every biometric and biographic item as it is captured, against the international standards the finished document will be judged by. A poor sample caught here costs a recapture; the same sample caught after personalization costs a document.
NFIQ, ICAO 9303 and IREX scoring
Capabilities
Key functions
- Fingerprint quality scoring
- NFIQ / NFIQ 2.0 scoring from 0–100, detecting a finger too wet or too dry, incorrect pressure, or a partial print.
- Facial image quality
- Validation against ICAO 9303 and ISO/IEC 19794-5: pose, lighting, sharpness, occlusion from glasses or hair, face centering and head size in frame.
- Iris image quality
- Focus, lighting, centering and eyelid or eyelash occlusion, assessed with IREX and ISO/IEC 19794-6 algorithms.
- Liveness detection
- Blink check, micro-movement, 3-D face structure and skin texture, guarding against photographs, masks and deepfakes.
- Template quality assessment
- Assessment of the extracted template — minutiae for fingerprints, landmarks for face — before it is stored.
- Sequence checking
- Thumb, index, middle and so on in the right order for tenprint scans, catching operator error.
- Biographic data validation
- Date formats, MRZ check digits, ISO country codes, gender and typographic checks.
- Manual review queue
- Borderline samples routed to an operator rather than silently accepted or rejected.
- Quality thresholds and policies
- Configurable acceptance thresholds per programme — for example NFIQ 3 or better accepted, 4 to manual review, 5 or worse rejected.
Compliance
Standards
- NIST NFIQ / NFIQ 2.0
- Fingerprint quality scoring, 0–100.
- ICAO Doc 9303
- e-Passport facial photograph requirements: head size, pose, lighting, neutral expression.
- ISO/IEC 19794-2/5/6
- Fingerprint, facial image and iris data formats and quality.
- NIST IREX
- Iris algorithm quality and accuracy assessment.
- ANSI/NIST-ITL
- Biometric data format for inter-system exchange.
