INKJET DeskBook personalizes passports with paper-based data pages on a desk rather than in a bureau. Ink-jet printing puts a true-colour portrait, the holder’s data and the document’s security features onto the page, a built-in OCR module confirms the position and the data before it prints, and an optional chip encoder completes an ePassport in the same pass. It is built for the cases a central bureau handles badly — an emergency replacement, a consular post, a border office — where the applicant should leave with the document in hand.

Every booklet checked before it is handed over
An accurate positioning system places the print, and a camera captures the finished page so the application can verify the data itself — the officer validates what the machine has already checked, rather than catching mistakes by eye.
Printing flexibility
Pages are printed one at a time or in facing pairs — 2 and 3 together, say — so data page, observation page and visa endorsements come off one machine.
Optional chip encoding
An encoding module writes the contactless chip in line with ICAO standards, so the machine issues standard passports and ePassports alike.
Fluorescent security inks
Beyond the four process colours, red, green, blue and white fluorescent inks are available — a security feature printed into the page rather than added to it.
Two speeds, one engine
A text mode and a photo mode: the biographical print runs fast, the portrait runs at photographic quality, and the booklet is not held up waiting for the slower of the two.

A true-colour data page, printed on paper
Passports, border resident certificates and other paper-based security documents are personalized with photographic colour and the fine detail their security design depends on.
Issued while the applicant waits
Emergency replacements, consular posts and border offices all need a document today rather than next week. The booklet is personalized at the counter and handed straight back.
The page is read before it is printed
The built-in OCR module checks the print position and the data against the booklet in front of it. A misaligned data page in a decentralized office means a spoiled passport, so the machine verifies first.
Data page and observation page together
Both pages are printed in one operation. Observations, endorsements and visa notes are handled by the same machine that issues the document.
Consumables a small site can carry
Cost-effective ink and low maintenance keep the cost per document down, which is what makes it reasonable to put an issuing machine in every office rather than one bureau.
